Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 July 2026. Applies to the Alphred desktop application for Windows and Mac.
1. Who we are
Alphred ("Alphred," "we," "us," or "our") is the desktop software you install and run on a Windows or Mac computer you own or control. For privacy questions, contact: nelsonbazzard@gmail.com.
2. What Alphred is
Alphred provides a local-first AI agent on your PC, including chat, computer use, browser control, memory and voice. You may optionally use online capabilities such as a search gateway, image generation, or one-click Connectors to third-party apps (for example Google, Microsoft, Slack or Notion). Those optional features only run when you enable them and, where required, sign in or grant permission.
3. Information processed on your device
Much of your data never leaves your computer. Depending on how you use Alphred, this may include:
- Chat messages, conversation titles, projects, memory and attachments you create or upload
- App settings and preferences (theme, voice options, model choices, approvals and similar)
- Encrypted vault data used to protect secrets on your machine
- OAuth access tokens, refresh tokens and related credentials for Connectors you connect, stored in a local encrypted vault
- Local AI and voice runtime data when you enable features that run models on-device
- Computer-use and browser activity data generated while Alphred acts on your machine at your request
You control deletion of local conversations and disconnecting Connectors from within Alphred. Removing Alphred or clearing its app data on your OS removes local stores subject to your operating system's normal file retention rules.
4. No requirement to send chats to Alphred
Using the local agent does not require you to upload your chats, files or memory to Alphred-operated servers. If you later enable optional Alphred online services (such as our search gateway or image generation), only the content needed for that request is sent to operate that service, as described below.
5. Account and licence information
If you create a local profile on the device (for example a display name or avatar), that data is stored locally unless a specific cloud account or sync service is enabled and separately disclosed. If you use a paid or licensed Alphred plan, we may process account identifiers, licence status and billing-related details through our payment provider. Licence checks are intended to verify entitlement and are not used to read your chat content.
6. Optional Alphred online services
When you choose optional Alphred-operated features (for example search gateway requests or image generation credits), we may process:
- The query or prompt content needed to fulfil that request
- Usage and credit metering associated with your account
- Technical logs needed to operate, secure and bill those services
You may instead use bring-your-own-key (BYOK) search or other self-configured providers where Alphred supports them. In those cases, the relevant third party processes data under their own terms.
7. Connectors and OAuth
When you connect an app, Alphred opens that provider's official sign-in page in your browser. You authenticate with the provider (not by pasting passwords into Alphred). After you approve access, Alphred receives tokens that let it call the provider's APIs on your behalf.
- What we receive: typically an access token (and sometimes a refresh token), basic account identifiers the provider returns (such as email or username), and the scopes you approved.
- Where tokens live: on your device in Alphred's encrypted local vault for normal consumer Connectors.
- How Alphred uses connected data: only to perform actions you request in the product, subject to the permissions you granted.
- Revocation: you can disconnect a Connector in Alphred and/or revoke Alphred's access in the provider's security settings (for Google: Google Account → Security → Third-party access).
Google, GitHub, Notion, Microsoft, Slack and other providers process your authentication and data under their own privacy policies. Alphred's request for access is limited to the scopes shown on the provider's consent screen.
8. AI model providers
When you send a chat message, content you include may be processed by the local runtime on your PC and/or by an AI provider you configure (for example a local model host or a cloud model endpoint). Those providers process prompts according to their terms. Choose models and hosts you trust. Do not include secrets in prompts unless you intend that provider to receive them.
9. Information we (Alphred as operator) receive
For a standard local install of the core agent, we do not need your chat history, memory or Connector tokens. If you contact us for support, we will process the contact details and message content you send. If you use optional Alphred online services or a licensed plan, we process the account and usage data needed to provide those services. If we later add optional analytics, crash reporting or cloud sync, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent before turning those features on.
10. How we use information
- To run Alphred on your device and provide features you enable
- To complete Connector sign-in and authorised API calls you initiate
- To operate optional Alphred online services you choose to use
- To verify licence entitlement where applicable
- To respond to support requests you send us
- To improve reliability and security of the product
- To comply with law when we are legally required to do so
We do not sell your personal information.
11. Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Sharing occurs only when:
- You connect a third-party service and Alphred calls that service with your tokens
- You send content to an AI provider or online service you configured or enabled
- Required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety or security
- With service providers who help us operate Alphred (for example payment or infrastructure providers), bound to protect your data
12. Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, disconnect a Connector, clear app data or uninstall Alphred. Account, licence and optional online-service records we hold are retained as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Support emails we receive are retained as long as needed to resolve your request and meet legal obligations.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical measures appropriate for a desktop product, including military-grade AES-256 encryption for local data and an encrypted vault for stored secrets. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Keep your device locked, use an OS user account password, and treat recovery keys carefully if Alphred shows them to you.
14. Children's privacy
Alphred is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
15. International users
Alphred runs on your device. If you use third-party providers or optional Alphred online services, your data may be processed in countries where those providers or we operate. Review each provider's policy for cross-border details.
16. Your choices
- Use Alphred locally without enabling optional online services
- Disconnect Connectors at any time in Alphred settings
- Revoke app access in the provider's account security page
- Delete conversations and clear local data in Alphred / via your OS
- Contact us to ask questions about this policy
17. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Alphred after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where additional consent is required by law.
